Welcome
to Good Hope! The
Town of Good Hope was incorporated on January 19, 1962 with a population
of 180
persons. Since that time, the town has grown to approximately 1,966
citizens, due mostly to its convenient and desirable location in western
Cullman County. Situated in close proximity to the county seat of
Cullman, Good Hope is also located along Interstate 65, making for
quick and easy travel to the nearby cities of Decatur, Huntsville and
Birmingham. The nearness of such a major thoroughfare has made Good
Hope one of the fastest growing communities in Cullman County.
Interstate 65 divides the town evenly with the eastern half containing
the commercial and industrial sector and the western half being
primarily residential.
The town contains 31 miles of streets and roads, which
provide for ease of travel in and around Good Hope. Good Hope
Fire and Rescue, consisting of 25 volunteer members, provides emergency
medical service and fire protection for the town's citizens as well as
providing assistance to surrounding areas with their Hazardous Materials
Team. Although businesses and industries abound in the town, Good Hope is
very proud of its sense of small-town community: a way of life that is
evident in everything from their commitment to education through Good Hope
School to the care with which the local parks and softball fields are
maintained.
Good Hope is
also conveniently located near Lewis Smith Lake, one of the premier
spots in the state for fishing, water sports and
weekend recreation.
Good Hope has a climate
similar to that found elsewhere in Cullman County with long, hot summers
and brief, mild winters. Average rainfall for the area is around 54 inches
per year. Weather changes are frequent, but are usually short in duration
and rarely extreme.
Good Hope, like
the rest of Cullman County, is located in the Appalachian plateau province.
There are many
rolling hills and wide flat expanses of land that create an overall
atmosphere of pastoral beauty.
