The Commission on Aging is proud to offer our elite services to the Seniors of Cullman County and surrounding areas. Our expert staff is top-notch in providing you with the information that you need. Heating and Cooling Assistance

Federal funds are available from time to time to help qualified seniors receive financial assistance to pay for heating and cooling bills. Weatherization funds are available to assist qualified seniors with energy conservation improvements to their homes.

These programs are administered through Community Action Partnership of North Alabama,
and can be reached at (256)734-5170.


Legal Services

Cullman County retirees and seniors have access to free legal services at Cullman County Commission on Aging in cooperation with NARCOG (North-Central Alabama Regional Council of Governments).

NARCOG sends an attorney to the office of Cullman County Commission on Aging, as needed for appointments with seniors. The attorney comes to Cullman usually once or twice a month to provide basic legal services to seniors age 60 and older.

Medicare Assistance

Cullman County Commission on Aging offers one-to-one counseling for Cullman County seniors on Medicare.

Medicare Part D (Prescription Drug Plans) comparisons are provided to seniors each year as needed by trained Commission on Aging staff. No appointment is necessary.

COA staff will print out the top three prescription drug plans tailored for each person’s individual need. Seniors requesting this service will need to provide to our staff your Medicare card, your medicine or a list of medicine with dosage, and insurance and income information.

2024, COA helped seniors save $1,023,849.70 with 1,405 clients served (by appointment only).

SENIORx Services

Cullman County Commission on Aging staff assists seniors age 55 and older with paperwork and the application process to receive free medicine from pharmaceutical companies.

2021, COA helped seniors receive prescriptions valued at $497,822.

Nutrition Services

Hot Meals

Hot meals are served daily, Monday through Friday (except holidays) at the seven Commission on Aging full-time senior centers. This includes: Colony, Crane Hill, Cullman, Fairview, Hanceville, Holly Pond, and West Point. There is no charge for the meal, however a donation is appreciated and goes back into the meals program.

Hot meals are delivered to the homes of homebound senior citizens in the service area of the seven senior centers listed above for those that meet guideline requirements.

Meals for seniors are provided with funds from Alabama Department of Senior Services, Cullman County Commission, donations from businesses, churches and individuals, NARCOG, and United Way of Cullman.

Senior Farmer’s Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) Application will OPEN January 9, 2024.

If you have applied and will receive your voucher card please continue reading:

YOU MUST KEEP THIS CARD EVEN AFTER USING THE FULL AMOUNT. You will use this same card next year instead of waiting for a new one to be issued to you. You will still have to apply each year to receive the benefits on your card.

You cannot check the balance of this benefit card, but when you make a purchase with a certified farmer and the card is scanned it will display your card amount before the purchase is made.

Social Security Assistance

Cullman County Commission on Aging staff provides limited one-to-one counseling on Social Security questions. For detailed information about Social Security benefits, COA encourages everyone to go to the local Social Security office located at:

Cullman Area Rural Transportation System

C.A.R.T.S. operates a fleet of buses to provide transportation Monday through Friday. C.A.R.T.S. customers should call at least one day before transportation is needed. Free transportation is provided to and from Full-Time Senior Centers.
